Pirate's Cove

Sifnos -> Milos via Pirate's Cove

Sleepy Sifnos

For some reason, I woke up really early and decided to venture out on my own. Believe it or not, the boat can be pretty cramped and I wanted some alone time to gather my thoughts! Plus, I wanted to see what this sleepy village had to offer! I was hoping for baked goods and coffee…

I began my lovely little walk to the top of the bluff to the church. It had sweeping views of the village and sea. I could even see the top of the boat!

Next, I went to the village. As expected, everything was closed and dead silent. Sifnos was very peaceful! I walked from one end to the other and back. I took some amazing pictures from the beach! The sun was creeping over the mountains and the Aegean was as smooth as glass.

Sailing from Sifnos

Our sailing day to Milos began similar to our other days - very peaceful and relaxing. It was nearly yet perfect! For today, Captain was taking us to one of his favorite spots - Pirates Cove on the Milos coast. IF we were to island hop via ferry, we would have had to pay for this day trip!

Another perk of our little sailboat is we had a special visitor today - dolphins!! Mary Frances captured an amazing video and they were jumping out of the water by the front. They then swam in and around the boat. It was really cool!

Pirate's Cove

According to legend, these coves were used by pirates to hide their loot! Or were they… When we first arrived, the coves were stunning. They are a marbled white with very visible inlets and a few coves. As we were dropping the anchor, we noticed we were one of the few yachts here. Another great job by the Captain as we beat the crowds!

First Swim

Certain people, mainly Abbey and Mary Frances, did not want to jump into the freezing cold water initially so the first group went exploring! Similar to children at Christmas, we swam everywhere! One of our favorite parts were the caves and arches. One cave was like a long tunnel where you could see the bottom of the tunnel through the crystal clear glass. To break, we stopped a pebble beach. We then ended our trip by another cave and I am immensely happy I brought my GoPro!

Second Swim

In order to convince MF to join me on a second go around, I basically poured cold water on her and tossed the kindle in the boat! Whatever it took! Abbey was much easier as I just had to jump in before her to prove that sharks weren’t lying around.

I took them on a tour of the same coves and I think they were equally amazed. Each time is a little different because the light hits the caves differently. With the caves, I feel like pictures certainly speak loud than words! It is simply amazing.

By the time we were getting out of the water, there were loads of boats around us! I believe the boats were doubled, even tripled in some cases! With all the boats, there were bound to be a few annoying ones. Unfortunately, it was anchored next to us! They kept playing this really annoying music that was disrupting our peace…

Milos

Once we arrived in Milos, we all were hot, tired, and a little worn out. We did want food, but we didn’t want to immediately go. However, we did want to explore a little so obviously we went and got some gelato before dinner! We debated where we should go for dinner and we had two options - stay in the port or take a taxi to the slightly bigger old town on the hill. We opted for the hill restaurant to see something different!

I really should have looked where this restaurant is on the hill because I told the taxi the location while he thought I meant the top of the hill. We definitely got lost for a solid 10 minutes and we had to keep walking back and forth through this little kid’s birthday party. It was very amusing, but frustrating!

Sunset Views

At Bariello, we encounter amazing sunset views as it overlooked the Milos hills and surrounding sea. It was beautiful! We found this tiny restaurant in the very handy lonely planet guide and it was certainly living up to the billing. The owner came out and welcomed us into his little family.

For my meal, I ordered the shrimp risotto while MF ordered the fresh fish cooked in the traditional Greek way. Initially, I thought she won, but I definitely enjoyed my meal! All in all, it was a great meal with some great people!
For Milos, I truly felt the pictures were worth a thousand words. It is incredibly hard to describe the raw natural beauty of the coves, beaches, sunsets, and mountains!
