Camping in Serifos
Today, we were going camping in Serifos!
Milos -> Serifos
Our Milos Morning
On this fine Wednesday morning, we decided to stock up on supplies for lunch and possibly a boat dinner. Funnily enough, we all separately ventured to the grocery stores and all returned with the proper supplies! After consecutive days of not really eating lunch, we finally had enough! Plus we figured we have to feed the Captain something...
Milos marina is really cute and full of various activities. On every boat, they advertise all sorts of island exploration including the Pirates Cove! From the lonely planet book, we read Milos is an outdoors paradise for both the adventurer and relaxer. Hmm.. I wonder who that sounds like!
Sailing to Serifos
For these tiny islands, our sail times are really short! I suppose this is breaking up our long trek back to Athens... our schedule today as to go to Serifos, swim, then either stay the night or go to the marina.
Our swimming was amazing. We were one of possibly 3 boats in the inlet plus a shack or two onshore. We felt totally alone on the island!! We took out the canoe and floats and enjoyed our time.
The Great Debate
With any big decision, there will be a contentious debate. As the official first mate, I had to make the decision which I made very democratic. Captain told us we could stay, eat, and sleep on this island or sail another 2-3 hours to the marina. Due to potential marina crowding, we had to make a game time decision.
Certain people wanted to stay and enjoy boat camping. Releastically, the only difference between staying and marina would be land is a stones throw from the boat. We also would have to live with the purchased food or we could take the dingy to shore for one shack that is a restaurant. In addition, we would save time tomorrow as our sail would only be 4ish hours versus 6-7 hours. Clearly, one can tell which camp I am in!!
In the end, Nick was bothered by not touching land but conceded as it would save sailing time tomorrow. He also lost the vote in a landslide, 5-1. I also think Captain wanted to stay!
Thus, we were able to swim longer, Captain was able to take his afternoon nap, and Nick was semi-brooding on the boat! All in all, it was a lovely afternoon!
Chef AND Captain
Eventually, the captain stumbled out of his berth and was hungry. Thankfully, we had stocked our meager provisions with more meager provisions. We had really random items, but it was enough to get by! We all gathered in the kitchen to watch the Captain cook. He has clearly been cooking on a boat with random things much longer than we have!
Our main course was a lovely salami spaghetti with fresh tomatoes, canned tomato sauce, honey, and other bits. We were quite surprised how tasty it was! Thankfully we had plenty of it so we all were full afterwards.
For dessert or perhaps a side, he fried zucchini with eggs and bread. This was a surprise and safe to say MF would be taking this receipe back to the UK! For the main dessert, I had leftover watermelon and feta cheese. Everything was tasty!
Night Boat Activities
Surprisingly, despite us being on a boat for over a week now, eating all our meals together, basically spending 24 hours together, we still had a lot to talk about! Combined with the scenic views of dusk on the water, we entertained ourselves very easily! We also played some board games and charades.
Staying on the boat was the perfect decision!! If we were to do yacht week again, I would alternate days between boat camping and marinas. It is terrific and the reason why we rented the sailboat!
