From One Island to the Next
From One Island to the Next
Finally, after a long few, fun days at Kythonos, we were departing! We were sad to leave our famliar island, but very excited to explore a new one! Since we were heading into the unknown, we gathered supplies, bought some light food and coffee, and were on our way!
Sailing
Compared to the choppy seas yesterday, today's waters were remarkable smooth. It was night and day! Our Captain was very excited and glad we did not tempt fate. If we were to leave yesterday, we would have spent all three hours tossing and turning and hanging on for dear life. Now, we relaxed and sunbathed!
Syros
Our Captain docked us at the Foinikas port which consisted of three parts: main village, rocky beach, and sandy beach. In no particular order, we obviously went straight to the sandy beach. We were very grateful and were one of the few groups at this sandy hideaway!
We spotted huts and chairs and aimed for those. Nick found out we could have this combination for only four euros AND have a free drink. Score!! We lounged around the beach for a few more hours, enjoying the Greek sunlight and a new island
Ermoupolis
Captain informed us a larger, more capital city lay about 30 minutes away. It seemed like a good idea to go there for dinner so we ordered one of the few island taxis. As we danced to one of the few songs the taxi played, we enjoyed barren countryside. More surprisingly was the 15 euro taxi, split 5 ways, for a 30 minute drive! I love Greece!
The capital of Syros was very beautiful. Throughout the city, the streets were made of marble and many of the houses were covered in vines. It made for a very scenic scene and lovely wander. Unfortunately, most stores were closed. We were mostly looking for fun floats or something, but couldn’t find anything!
Lastly, we found our inspiriation for the next yacht week. I must refer to the picture below! According to Google, this astounding boat only holds about 12, excluding a staff of 10+. The "lifeboats" were larger than our boat!!
Dinner
As with any meal, it was a large affair with many laughs, stories, and Nick sounds. We wandered down this street and thought It looked exceptionally perfect. We wandered down this tiny alleyway and the ceiling was covered in vines. It was picturesque!
I ordered the chicken syros, obviously, which reminded me of a soupy chicken with rice and fries. It was very tasty and local! Similar to our other meals, the stray cats found the weak links… Mary Frances surprisingly found all the cats in the alley and they surrounded her accordingly. For dessert, we received a free cake that tasted like tapciaco pudding texture with a vanilla falvour. Our captain later told us the name that I failed to write down but it was delicious!
To walk off our meal, we again wandered the city. It was turning from dusk to night and the city lit up. It was beautiufl. We could even see Mykonos from the coastline! I am starting to see why Greece is immensely popular…
As we bounced from one island to the next, we loved the smooth sailing to the sandy beaches of Syros. To end the nearly perfect day, we immensely enjoyed exploring the capital city, or Hora at night!
