Oh Sunny Days!
After a cloudy day, we were extremely excited for a blue skies and sunshine! Our moods are very determined by the weather on the boat as a cloudy day is not welcomed! To celebrate this weather, Helen made terrific poached eggs on avocado toast! This breakfast was definitely my favorite of the trip so far! Helen even taught me how to do poached eggs with I thought were incredibly hard to make but it wasn’t that bad!
For today’s sailing route, we were originally warned that it would be a 7 hour sailing day. However, because we were crammed into the Korcula marina, we couldn’t leave at a decent time so it meant we had to keep delaying our sailing time until we could push away without any issues. Because of the delay, our skipper Freddie decided to make it an easy swim and sail day which we were totally down for after yesterday’s cloudy day!
Sailing Away
As we left the marina, we were very excited as we were going to pass Korcula on the boat and receive those terrific photo opportunities! Pictures speak louder than words!
Korcula
Compared to other sailing days, we had a relatively short day on the water even though time seems to pass more quickly on the boat somehow! After two hours, we stopped for our daily lunch and swim.
The spot was so remote and just awesome. I enjoyed our little dip into the Adriatic Sea before lunch! The water is a perfect contrast to the hot sunny day as the water is around 25C. Plus, we could see into this crystal clear teal turquoise water. It was perfect!
For our lunch today, Helen prepared a wonderful Spanish themed meal with chorizo and chicken risotto, tortilla (potato and eggs), and a light Mediterranean salad with tomatoes, cheese, avocado and pesto. Afterwards, we were very full, but it was a happy food coma!
It’s the Bounce
After another hour of swimming, Freddie drove us to the tiny, tiny village of Loviste, a small seaside town located on the very end of the Peljesac peninsula that connects to the mainland. It is also home to our favorite grape variety of Plavic Mali. Instead, this little village is at the remote outskirts.
Unfortunately for us, the wind had really picked up so the waves were really tough. Despite being on a moor buoy, the boat was bouncing in the waves and everyone started to get seasick… Instantly, we took dramamine and literally counted down the seconds until we were going to be ferried to the mainland where we could kiss the ground and thank the stars for dry land!
Normally, we would be excited about getting into a dingy, but getting into a small rocking boat did not seem pleasant. We basically had to jump in and hoped we made it! Our ride was a slow, wavy one but thankfully we made it! Freddie also thought it would be a good idea to jump onto the stone ramp. It was quite amusing!
Sunset Views
After finding our land legs again, we walked to the highly recommend Gradina restaurant. Located on the edge of town, we had excellent sunset views. Even if the food was poor, we were happy to have one of the best sunset views in Croatia!
Sunset Views
For over an hour, we watched as the sunset produced amazing orange, pink, yellow and red colors. One of my favorite pictures is after the sunsets as the orange and pink sky combines perfectly with the dark blue water. It was perfect!
One Video isn't enough!
Combined with our sunset, we also had terrific food! Usually, at dinner, we go with Freddie’s recommendation. Tonight was no different! The restaurant has a giant open grill so we knew we had to get some tasty grilled meat and veggies! We chose to split our dinner because we weren’t sure how our stomachs were going to handle a lot of food on a bumpy night.
We had a great Greek salad, simple and tasty grilled vegetables, and a delicious lemon chicken! Our meal was great and really simple. We enjoyed every bite! If only we could say the same about our bumpy cabin…
Evening Stroll
After dinner, we strolled through the village admiring the views and avoiding the boat. Although we usually liked being on the boat, we did not want to be on the waves. However, we are glad we chose a catamaran as the monohulls were really being rocked around tonight. Supposedly, the wind was going to die down around 11pm so we figured if we could make it until then, we may have a slight chance of sleeping! At least we will always have the sunset and great food…
The UnChartered Summary
Our sunny day on Korcula Island and Loviste was amazing - right until the very end where we had to deal with the rocky seas! Despite the rough seas, we still had a fabulous meal of grilled chicken and vegetables (yes, it was that good and simple!) and amazing sunsets.
- With Loviste being one of the most remote villages in Croatia, it is hard to say “go there!” However, similar little villages exist throughout Croatia so enjoy them if you get the opportunity.
- We had some of the best food here but I know simple, good food is throughout Croatia - hence why we love this country!
- Croatia sunsets are some of the best in the world. With the beautiful orange and pink colors with the blue water, it is simply amazing. You can to see it for yourself!
