Sunrise Sail

Because we had a long sail ahead of us today, Freddie wanted to get started with a sunrise sail! Meaning, we had to wake up by 6am in order to get a great view. Since it is a once in a lifetime opportunity, we woke up early and joined Freddie on the top deck.

While it was a little chilly, we definitely had terrific views. On the Adriatic, the water is so peaceful and the views are beautiful. We are tired, but the views made it worthwhile!

Breakfast on the Boat

After the sun rose and the heat of the day occurred, Helen baked us a fresh banana bread to go along with our usual continental with goat cheese and various meats. I really enjoyed the banana bread and I was very surprised she made it on the boat! Gives me inspiration that anything is possible…

Sailing Away

Because we had a long day of sailing, the rest of our morning was filled with lounging around and possibly napping after our 6am wake up time. While laying out on a boat may be boring, the sound of the waves and the views are stunning regardless of the time and day!

Lunch and Swim

Similar to our other days, our lunch and swim spot was excellent. Located near Vrboska, our spot is a normal beach spot. Half filled with families and the other half full of nudists, it was quite a show! Regardless of the attire, we enjoyed our little swim after a long day of sailing.

For lunch, Helen again did a fantastic meal! With the Italian theme, we had gnocchi in tomato sauce, arancini balls (fried risotto balls), and a fresh salad. For us, this was a wonderful meal that filled us up for the afternoon! To top us off, after we docked, I enjoyed a nice little ice cream by our boat. It was great afternoon!

Hora Farm

For today’s evening activity, Yacht Getaways arranged for us to visit Hora Farm, a working farm that produces lavender, wine, and local food. We obviously signed up immediately and it turned out to be our favorite activity of the trip! Well, maybe 🙂 Once we arrived at the magical Hora Farm, we were amazed at the simple beauty of the rows of lavender and vines. Plus, the sun was beginning to set so we definitely had one of the best views on Hvar Island.

Wine Tasting

Our first activity was a great wine tasting. This was not our typical wine tasting where we would receive a little taste of the wine, it was a large pour!

  1. Local grape variety, means Greek Goddess since the variety was planted by the Greeks. We found it fruity but a little dry. It wasn’t bad!
  2. Posip variety grown in Korcula. The flavor was more apricots and dry. We definitely preferred this wine!
  3. The standard wine in Croatia, Plavic mali. Their wine has been aged in French oak for 2 years. Because of the slow season due to COVID, they don’t bottle it, but the crew liked it so much that they smuggled us a bottle in an old water bottle!
  4. Our last wine was their rose. We didn’t mind it! The taste was dry and not so sweet which is a huge win for us

In addition to tasty lovely wines, they provided meat and cheese made from their farm. The fresh cow cheese was really good but the star of the show was their black pig salami. The meat fell apart before we even ate it!

However, it might not have even been our true favorite - the olive oil with spices was exceptionally good with their homemade bread. Wow, we just enjoyed every single bite.

Family Feast

Before arriving at the farm, we reserved a traditional Croatian dinner called Peka. Known as a special meal, peka refers to the dish that they slow roast lamb, potatoes, and veggies for 5 hours over an open flame. Who can say no to that??

When our host brought it over, we were stunned. The dish was massive and smelled amazing! When we started to eat, the lamb fell off the bone and immediately fell a part with our forks. The lamb was very tender and tasty! The only bad part was we had to fight off the wasps while we ate!

After stuffing our faces with wonderful peka, we were well rewarded with fresh fruit. I was so glad it was not a sweet dessert otherwise I wasn’t sure if we would eat it!

As we ate our fruit, the sun was slowly setting behind the mountains and sea. In back to back nights, we have had terrific sunsets! We just can’t lose!

As we were about to leave, the staff offered the group their leftovers because they had cooked to much. Little did we realize that it meant their huge dishes of meat, potato, and salad! They brought over these massive plates and it was completely full of chicken, sausages, pork cheek, potatoes, and salad. All for free because they treated us like their family. Heck, they even invited our cab driver and the couple that just happened to be there!

We had a fantastic time and the experience truly felt like we were a part of the family. Quite a way to end the evening.

The UnChartered Summary

When we heard we were going to Hvar, we imagined going to the party haven and seeing a good sunset over the water. Instead, we went to a wonderful family run farm at Hora Farm, drank great wine, ate fabulous food, and enjoyed a spectacular sunset over the vineyards.

  • If in Hvar, go to Hora Farm located outside Stari Grad. It may be our favorite activity on yacht week. We enjoyed everything from the wine tasting to the fantastic meal!
  • We enjoyed Vrboska, a tiny seaside town on Hvar Island. If one wants to escape the busyness of Hvar Town, this is an excellent seaside village.
