We actually have a boat!
Our Journey from Methana to Kythonos...
B&B&B
Our first night on the boat bed and breakfast was a resounding success! I definitely enjoyed the gentle rocking that was very similar to a baby getting rocked in a crib. Even better, we awoke to the sun rising over the Aegean Sea!
As there are only a few choices in Methana, we ate at the same B&B cafe as the previous night. The owner was smiling and happy to see us again! I tried my first Greek coffee and it was interesting… very gritty and strong! Probably our favorite part about breakfast was the deal we received on our wine. We purchased 4 liters for 20 euros! It is so cheap here!
After breakfast, before we sailed, we walked the coast. There really wasn’t much to see in the town. I think there were about 4 restaurants, 2 hotels, some abandoned buildings, and some small shops. Unfortunately, we could not find any cool floats!
Sailin’
Wow. Sailing literally the big blue sea was amazing. Today was one of our longer cruises as we had to go to the Cyclades islands. Based on my rough estimation, it was about 6-7 hours - but we loved every second of it.
For sailing, there really isn’t much to write about. We basically did four things in repeating, but various order: napped, read, watched, and talked. The sound of the sea gently crashing against the boat as we sailed away was extremely inviting and we loved it. It was fantastic. Unfortunately, MF and I failed to put enough sunscreen on so we were immediately burnt. I learned my lesson - do not use spray sunscreen!!
Docking
We sailed into the tiny little port on the west side of Kythonos and we were starving. We ordered bread, but it wasn’t proper sandwich bread so we hadn’t eaten since breakfast. Thankfully, we could explore!
On our little island, there was one market, about 6-8 restaurants, one gelato, and one bakery. That was it! Thus, we explored on the way to the hot springs that were near the beach.
Since the water is usually really cold, we appreciated the hot springs heating up the beach water! Compared to Florida and the Gulf of Mexico “bath water,” it was a nice change of pace. We basked in the sunlight and beach!
Dinner on the beach
With our limited options, we surprisingly took our time to figure out where we should eat! We decided on Sofrano’s since the Captain was eating there and TripAdvisor had great reviews. For this island, the restaurant was very fancy. We had white table cloths and the prices were also more than we anticipated.
To split, we obviously had liters of white wine, tzatziki, and bread. I feel like that was a standard appetizer order regardless of the restaurant in Greece! For my main, I had the shrimp special and they were massive. The food was really tasty and filling! We really enjoyed it.
Sunset Drinks
Because we had an early dinner, we had ample amounts of time before sunset and bed. To explore, we hopped over to one of the other restaurants with a different view. Nick obviously declared, Karnagio, his favorite restaurant. Then again, we had just heard that Sofranos was his favorite restaurant.
The views were amazing, but we felt like we should spend the evening on the boat. We were still in the honeymoon stage where we cannot spend enough time on the boat. Plus, we had “free” drinks on the boat! I still think nights on the boat were some of my favorites!
