Early Morning Stroll

Similar to my previous mornings, I went for an early walk to explore the town and get some steps and photos. Supetar is very quiet in the morning with only the old men and myself awake in the town. The town is very charming and I had some excellent photos of the beaches, town churches, and waterfront. Plus, it is nice to have some alone time and away from the boat!

Final Sail

Our final day was extremely sad as we do not want to give up our sailing! However, all good things must come to an end!

Last Breakfast

For our last breakfast, Helen made an excellent French toast crunch bread! It was so tasty and a fitting way to end our yacht week. We gobbled it up and then laid down to enjoy our final sail.

Actually Sailing

Since we are a short sail away from our final destination, we actually went sailing! Freddie loosen the sails and we were cruising at a fast 4 knots, or 8km/hour. While I have enjoyed the sounds of the water, there is no better sound than the water crashing against the boat as we are sailing with no motor. We could hear everything! It was quite lovely and an amazing sight!

Midway through our sail, we had the best surprise, dolphins! A pack of four dolphins wanted to play with us! Swimming at the bow, the dolphins were jumping out of the water, looking at us, and just enjoying themselves! The entire boat was at the ledge and I think the dolphin realized it and was having fun. The dolphins were much bigger than I expected and even Freddie was surprised at their size.

Lunch and Swim

Because we are so close to Split, we stopped at a very popular swimming and water sports location. Since it was crowded, we couldn’t really swim that far and had to be very careful because of the passing boats. While I enjoyed the last swim on yacht week, it had to be a quick one! By the time we left, there were many other catamarans and sailboats there.

For our last meal on the boat, Helen made a special treat - nachos! She was inspired by our conversation about great Mexican food. Despite the lack of supplies and being on a boat, the nachos were really good! The Americans onboard were impressed! Even though it is more Tex-Mex than Mexican food.

Off to Split

Because Freddie had an emergency dentist appointment, he was going to Split and we figured we would go ahead and see the city whilst we are nearby. Little did we realize that Split was 30+ minutes away by car… Either way, we were in Split and we were going to take advantage of it!

Similar to Sicily and other Mediterranean cities, we played our favorite wandering game - dodge the sun and stay in the shade! Entering the UNESCO site of  Deoclaican’s Palace, every alley and street is an unique discovery and has fantastic historic story. Last time we were in Split, we did a wonderful walking tour.

Blast from the Past: Read about our Split experience here!

Wandering through the streets we discovered why we love the Mediterranean cities and especially love Croatia! Combined with unique and beautiful Roman ruins and trendy restaurants, Split has so much to offer. At 2pm, we felt like we had the entire Old Town to ourselves and we weren’t sure if it was due to COVID or it was 2pm. Regardless, the empty streets and restaurants were ours!

For a little break, we stopped at our favorite wine bar, Zinfedel, for a cooling off drink. MF had her favorite Dingac while I had a cool Rose. It was really tasty and a nice way to beat the heat. However, that wasn’t my favorite part because I got a wonderful mango gelato minutes later! Now that is how I beat the heat!

In the end, while we enjoyed wandering through the city, we wished we stayed local and went to Trogir. The journey to and from Split was long and expensive so we do not recommend going to Split if you’re on Yacht Getaways.

Boat Life

After a long drive back to the boat, we did not want to leave that night or ever! We popped open a bottle of Rose and tried to finish our leftovers and snacks. It felt nice to have date night on the boat!

After awhile, Freddie and Helen joined us and we enjoyed getting to know them! In fact, Helen has convinced us to go to Corfu, Greece because she is from the island and absolutely loves it. And Freddie has convinced MF to get sailing lessons although I think MF was already convinced before the trip! Then, the rest of the group (Cori, Matt, Maria, and Lucca) came back from Triogir and we enjoyed our last evening together. Everyone would be leaving early in the morning so this was our last hurray!

Sadly, all good things must come to an end and we said our goodbyes! After 7 days, it felt like we were just getting to know everyone and it is really hard to leave. Plus, who wants to give up the dream life on a 42 foot catamaran sailing around one of the most beautiful countries?!

The UnChartered Summary

For our final day, we had a decent day although our trip to Split killed the thunder. Although Split was an long drive away, the city is still lovely and worth a visit. Just perhaps not on yacht week!

  • In case one can’t tell, we do slightly regret our journey into Split. However, that did not stop me from enjoying the wandering at the time and the tasty gelato!!
  • Always be on the lookout for dolphins! We still cannot believe we had front row seats to a great show!
