A Good Ole BBQ

On our fourth day, we had plenty of rest and relaxation with our best meal of the trip! TEA PICS

Early in the Morning

Just kidding, we did not wake up early in the morning! Because we cancelled our second whale shark snorkel, partly due to already seeing a whale shark and partly due to our sunburn, we had ample amounts of time in our water villa. On an island, there really isn’t much else to do when you don’t have any activities so we just kept it to our water villa. When you have views like the picture below, why leave?!

Breakfast of Champions

Finally, I was able to feast again on some delcisious breakfast at the Vilnu. We had our usual order of eggs benedict and scrambled eggs; however, we switched our “dessert” and had berry pancakes with chantilly cream. Safe to say this was the true winner in Mary Frances’ heart and tummy!

Photo Shoot

Because I cannot sit still for the entire day, I decided to drag MF out of the AC and into the water for a impromptu photo shoot. The sea is absolutely jaw dropping and we are easy additions to the backdrop. Pictures are worth a thousand words, right??

Behind the Scenes:

Since we brought the Nikon D3400, GoPro, and my iPhone Tripod, I had all three taking photos. The most frustrating was the iPhone tripod as it was bluetooth and refused to work when I had the remote. However, as soon as MF took the remote, it magically worked the entire time…

Afternoon Tea and Happy Hour

Since MF wanted to read or nap (it is hard to tell under the sunglasses!), I ventured to afternoon tea and happy hour alone. While waiting for my happy hour order, I overheard someone saying they saw three whale sharks on the tour this morning! Immediately after this sentence though, they said the whale shark point was madness with loads of boats. While we missed seeing three more whale sharks, we certainly did not miss the crowds!

For today, tea time included a date scone, passion fruit sponge cake, blueberry crumble tart, and a hummus olive dip. It certainly wasn’t as good as yesterday, but hit the spot since we skipped lunch today. More importantly, I had plenty of room for the main event - FISHERMAN’s BBQ!!!

Fisherman’s BBQ

Ahead of our trip to the Maldives, MF and I perused the island’s restaurants and special dinner events. We had our eye on one in particular - the Fisherman’s BBQ.

After landing on the island and hearing Hussain describe it on Day 1, we immediately signed up! While a hefty price tag, for an all you can eat seafood and meat and all you can drink meal, it seemed worthwhile! Plus, we had cancelled our whale shark snorkeling so we had more room in the budget!

The Backdrop

Oh my goodness, the backdrop for Fisherman’s BBQ was absolutely stunning. First, we walked under vines onto a “private” beach where there were many tables and grills of food, tables by the water, and the sunset to our backs. We chose a table towards the end for more privacy and to see the sunset!

Lovely getaway

For us, this BBQ was much better than the Ithaa Undersea dinner experience. For one, we had our choice of SO. MUCH. FOOD and the meal was on the beach and feet away from the water.

Since it was a fancy buffet, there were tables of food representing the various courses.

Fancy Feast

For our first course, we knew that we could not overload our plate. However, we often don’t listen to our own advice! I had two lobsters, a steak skewer, shimp, calamari, and then some green stuff they call a salad (boring..). Did I eat it all? YES.

For my second course, I had a proper steak, crab, lamb, lobster thermidor, and handmade fried shrimp. From this list, I think the steak, lobster thermador, and fried shrimp were my favorites!

While thoroughly in a food coma, I forced myself to get one last course. I only had my favorites and chose lobster and fried shrimp. To this day, I do not know how I ate all this food!!

Obviously, I had to get dessert. Because dessert goes to a different stomach, I had plenty of room! I had loads of yummy cookies, chocolate ice cream, and a chocolate souffle!

When we weren’t eating….

First, we were drinking great white and rose wine and soaking in the beautiful views! The sand beneath our feet and the gentle splashing of the ocean were fantastic side shows.

For entertainment, the resort has a fire dancing team! While a little corny, we do love a good fire show and watching folks swing fire! It was very entertaining and we had a front row seat! They did prevent me from more dessert - but did I really need it??

In the end, the Fisherman’s BBQ is one of the best deals on the island. While pricey, the value can easily be made up as one lobster is $70++ and wine is easily $50++ per bottle. Plus, the views and backdrop cannot be beat by any location on the island (that isn’t a water villa!).
