Paradise in Mykonos

Our Day in Mykonos

When one wakes up on a boat sitting outside Mykonos, we expect sunshine and paradise. When we woke up on Mykonos, we found rain. We all went to the cake for breakfast expecting a peaceful morning and walked back soaking in the rain. Since it rains only 4-5 times ALL SUMMER, we were loving it…

One way or Another

Our initial plan was to go to Paradise beach for the day and enjoy the sun and surf. With the rain, we had to find a Plan B in a hurry. I found this nice winery with some local foods. As we walked to the taxi stand, we were hoping for decent weather, a taxi, and a good plan B. Unfortunately, we had super hot weather, no taxi, and switched back to our first plan A!

Onto Paradise

Learning from our mistakes, we rushed back to the boat to change into our bathing suits and called a taxi. Thankfully, we were able to find one of the thirty taxis on the island. As we pulled up to Paradise Beach, it was nearly deserted and rain clouds were overhang. We were determined, but first, I was getting hangry!

We decided to possibly sit out the storm by eating at the restaurant. Nick finally broke his vegetarian ways and we both order lamb soluvaki. While I thought this was going to be touristy beach resort food, it was actually really tasty! The lamb melted in my mouth and it was cheaper than I expected!

At Paradise Beach, there is a very small section to lay out on a towel if you have one. Most tend to rent a beach chair, bed, or even bean bag! The chairs closest to the action cost more than the ones furthest away. For about 7 euros, you could rent a beach chair and umbrella for an entire day. I quite enjoyed the chairs, we had front row seats and it was very comfortable! With the sound of the waves, I could easily sleep.

After I finished my book and possibly a quick nap, I went to explore the beach and resort. Despite the earlier poor weather, the place was now popping. There was a toga party going on at one of the bars! I don’t remember this party atmosphere a few hours earlier! And it was only mid afternoon!

In addition to the toga party and dancers on tables, there was a strong instagram crowd. Meaning, tons of people were doing their best poses while holding a fruity drink. It was very amusing to see them strike their favorite pose and do it repeatedly!

Sunset and Sushi

Unfortunately, we had to leave Paradise in time to get ready (a length process for some…) and make it to a good sunset view. Due to our very strict and early timetable, we managed to reach a hotel with stunning views at the top. Despite the clouds, the sunset was pretty good. I imagine without clouds it is even better!

For dinner, Kathryn found this great sushi restaurant online. The waiter and owners were so friendly! In classic fashion, Mary Frances and I split the California roll, a spicy tuna roll, and a speciality roll with potato crisps! Certain people may have laughed, but we thoroughly enjoyed our meal!

For a nightcap, we went to classy establishment and had a few drinks. Unlike the previous night, we wanted to keep it easy! The streets of Mykonos are really pretty at night as the lights make the white marble sparkle. Most stores will even be open until 2am! After a few drinks, we made our way to the taxi stand and went back to our merry little boat.
