Croatia Yacht Week 2020 Planning

Sailing on a great catamaran with the stunningly blue Adriatic Sea as our backdrop has been one of our dreams since our last sailing trip in Greece. When the opportunity presented itself, we jumped on a plane and went to sunny Croatia.

Yacht Research

Over a year ago, I found a great yacht sailing company, Yacht Getaways, based in five countries: Montenegro, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and Tahiti. While we were not going to Greece (yet), we had our eye on the Croatia for the Split-Dubrovnik route or visa versa. Compared to our Greece trip, Yacht Getaways provides the boat, skipper, hostess, breakfast and lunches, and many more good amenities! Although we would be on a boat with strangers, we knew we would be able to manage on a boat in Croatia!

There are several more options than a fully provided boat. In the harbor, we found many great bareboat or charter companies.

If the more upscale yacht service doesn’t fit, they have another sister company called Med Sailors that is more for the young professionals in the 18-30 range. However, it is much cheaper than Yacht Getaways!

Our Plan

When we were in cold and cloudy England, I emailed the company and they actually had cabins available for 1-2 weeks in mid August. However, the route was not our ideal Split-Dubrovnik plan so we debated if we should do something else! For awhile, we debated going on Med Sailing (not knowing the connection at the time!) but in the end, we found a direct flight from Italy to Dubrovnik which sealed the deal!

From Naples, Italy, we would fly into Dubrovnik on Saturday afternoon. Heading straight to the marina, we would then sail up to Split where on the following Saturday we would then head straight back south to Dubrovnik since we love that city!

As for planning the sailing route, it would be entirely in our skipper’s hands! While they follow a general course as stated on the website, weather or availability could change the destinations.

Yacht Week Costs

Compared to our slightly complicated Greece trip, our costs were fairly simple here since everything is included. Refer to the summary for the total breakdown!

  • Boat, skipper, and hostess: 1,359

  • Flight from Naples to Dubrovnik: 99

  • Ferry back to Dubrovnik: £70

While our trip was researched and planned at the last minute, knowing that we went for an awesome company in Yacht Getaways made it much easier! Now all we needed to do was go on the trip!!!
